Kitchen design is constantly evolving. As we move through 2026, several clear trends have emerged - influenced by how we cook, entertain, and live at home. Here are the ten trends we're seeing most in our Barrie workshop and across our projects in Simcoe County and Muskoka.
1. Warm Neutrals Over Cool Whites
The all-white kitchen has had its moment. In 2026, homeowners are gravitating toward warm neutrals - creamy whites, warm greys, greige tones, and soft mushroom colours. These palettes create the same bright, open feel as white but with more warmth, depth, and character.
2. Natural Wood Accents
Even in painted kitchens, natural wood is making a strong comeback. A rift-cut white oak island in an otherwise painted kitchen, open wood shelving, or a wood-panelled range hood adds organic warmth. The most popular wood species right now are white oak and walnut.
3. Fluted and Textured Surfaces
Flat surfaces are giving way to textured ones. Fluted (ribbed) panels on islands, cabinet ends, and range hoods add visual interest and a sense of craft. Textured glass inserts, grooved drawer fronts, and curved details are all part of this movement toward more tactile, dimensional design.
Colour Palettes Leading the Way
Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams both released earthy, grounding colour-of-the-year picks for 2026, reflecting the ongoing trend toward warm, natural tones in kitchen design. Rich greens, warm taupes, and deep blues continue to gain popularity as accent colours, while white and off-white remain the safe choice for full kitchen cabinetry.

4. Integrated Appliances
Panel-ready refrigerators, dishwashers, and even range hoods that disappear behind cabinet panels create a seamless, furniture-like look. This trend is especially popular in open-concept homes where the kitchen is visible from living and dining areas.
5. Dramatic Range Hoods
The range hood has become a design statement. Custom wood or plaster hoods, sculptural metal hoods, and oversized chimney-style designs serve as the kitchen's focal point. We're building more custom range hoods than ever.
6. Pantry Walls
Floor-to-ceiling pantry walls with a mix of closed cabinets, pull-out shelving, and designated zones for appliances (like coffee stations and toaster ovens) are replacing traditional pantry closets. They keep everything accessible and organized while maintaining a clean kitchen aesthetic.
7. Bold Hardware
Hardware is being used as jewellery for the kitchen. Oversized pulls in unlacquered brass, matte black, or brushed gold make a statement. Some homeowners are mixing metals - brass knobs on the perimeter with black pulls on the island, for example.
8. Colour-Blocked Islands
Two-tone kitchens continue to gain momentum, with the island in a contrasting colour or material to the perimeter. Popular combinations include dark green or navy islands with white perimeters, and natural wood islands with painted surrounds.
9. Thin-Profile Countertops
Ultra-thin countertop edges (around 2cm vs. the traditional 3cm) create a sleeker, more modern look. Combined with a waterfall edge, this creates a dramatic, contemporary statement.
10. Multi-Zone Layouts
Instead of the traditional work triangle, 2026 kitchens are designed with distinct zones: a prep zone, a cooking zone, a cleanup zone, and a social zone. This layout works better for large kitchens and homes where multiple people are in the kitchen at once.
